Great post. I have been going through this myself since my son was born 18 months ago. You feel bad if you leave them at home and worse if you bring them to the race for reasons you point out. Racing is a single persons sport.

Good memory! The Miyata was strictly a work bike, but Chris Hensel had one (and still does) and used it as his race rig. I’m not sure what happened to mine, though it had a badly bent seat stay from a collision with a Ford Explorer at 17th & Sansom in 2000. Jared, yeah, by the time I sold the Jamis to him the frame was fairly used up.

Wasn’t the purple Miata your first cross bike? Or was that a touring rig for work?
I enjoyed the look of surprise when I asked a customer, who brought in a hacked up Jamis cross bike turned single speed if it was Jed’s bike. He asked how I knew. I said “I just do.”
